Lorelei the Quarter-Blood Empty
PostSubject: Lorelei the Quarter-Blood   Lorelei the Quarter-Blood Icon_minitimeWed Aug 22, 2012 12:28 am

Full Name: Lorelei Rose Serihilde
Nicknames: Lori and Lora
Age: Seventeen
Years At Camp: Just a couple of months.

Picture (Optional):
Spoiler:
Hair (Length, color, style, etc.): Long, slightly wavy brown hair that cascades all over the place like a waterfall or something. /can't describe things poetically
Eyes: A sort of muddy brown greenish color, normally. When she uses her powers, they turn a vivid gold.
Body Type (Height, weight, etc.): 5' 6 1/2", 134 lbs. Slender, but not overly thin, and not exceptionally strong.
Distinct Markings (Freckles, scars, birthmarks, etc.): Very tiny freckles on the bridge of her nose.
Style (Optional, use http://www.polyvore.com/ ):
Spoiler:
Lorelei enjoys light, loose-fitting clothes that flow easily in the breeze. She refuses to wear any sort of shoe that isn't a sandal, because she hates it when her feet feel confined. If she had her way, she'd never wear shoes at all. Her ears are pierced, and she wears a lot of pearl earrings, though her favorites are made of a silver metal and shaped like fish.\

Personality (Friendly, mean, different, violent, etc.): Lorelei is quite a nasty person, really. A bit of a loner, she's trying to integrate herself back into society after having lived alone for a long time. She's actually quite charming when talking to others. But very, very volatile. At any moment, she could turn on someone, and try to drown them.

God Parent Titan(ic?) Grandparent: Thaumas, meaning "wonder", child of Gaia and Pontus. Thaumas is the dangerous aspects of the sea personified.
Mortal Parent Parents: August Serihidle, a mortal, and Clarimonda Serihilde, daughter of Thaumas.
Date of Birth: August 17th, for the irony.

Powers (optional): Loreli has numerous powers, so I'll turn everything into a cute little organized list.

Le Powers
Underwater breathing: As is the standard with children of water deities, Lorelei can breathe underwater just as well as she can on land.
Fatal blow avoidance: An effect that can only occur once per day without killing her. If, say, someone came at her with a sword, jabbing towards her heart, Lorelei's body would melt into water around the weapon, allowing her to live to fight another day. This takes an awful lot of energy out of her, so if this occurs, she'll have to find a clever way to escape before she's attacked again. She can't control this at all, it's a reaction her body has to nearly being slaughtered.
Hydrokinesis: Standard control over water. Lorelei can move water around through the air, manipulate it however she wants, cause it to boil or freeze, etc. She can move about ten gallons of freshwater at a time, or thirty gallons of saltwater. It takes practically no energy at all for her to exert control over small bodies of water, like a half gallon, but she'll likely collapse from exhaustion if she manipulates thirty gallons of saltwater for a minute straight. She can NOT control the water inside of living things, such as animals, humans, or plants.
... Singing?: Like her not-so-distant cousins, the Sirens, Lorelei has a lovely singing voice. No, her songs don't have the power to make men jump from their ships and drown themselves. But when she sings, the sound has a sort of mesmerizing quality that slightly distracts people. You know, more than a person randomly singing would normally be distracting.

Fatal Flaw: Lorelei's lack of self-discipline will be the death of her someday.
Other Flaws (at least two others): Lorelei hates to accept help from others, preferring to be completely self-reliant. She's rather lonely by nature, anyways, so chances are no one would likely be there to offer their assistance. She loves to one-up others, and can't stand being outdone.

Weapon(s): Lorelei has a sort of dagger hilt with no blade, with a lid where the metal would go and a hollow chamber down the grip to hold saltwater in. In a fight, she'll make the small quantity of saltwater behave like a sort of flexible sword, freezing hard as rock to block and melting again to slice at her opponent at high speeds. She has two magical knives, one celestial bronze and one steel, that she keeps tied to the sash around her waist. The magical aspect is a relatively minor enchantment that allows her to move a bit more quickly when wielding them in battle.
Pets: None.
Talents/Skills: Lorelei is an accomplished singer (NO WAI!), and is quite a good dancer. Needless to say, she excels at water-related activities.

RP Example: I sat on the edge of a cliff overlooking the ocean, admiring the sunset from afar. The warm colors of the light and cool tones of the sea and sky mingled in a very strange, but beautiful way. It reminded me of dusk by the lakeside back home, in the summer evenings when the world began to grow cold and the fireflies emerged from their hiding places. Rather than thinking about my parents, and growing sentimental, my thoughts wandered onto the firefly tangent. Where did the little boogers go during the daytime? One of life's greatest mysteries, I said to myself with an amused smirk.
Biography: Lorelei is a very unusual sort of camper. Not a half-blood, not a demigod or even a demititan. Lorelei is a quarter-blood, a sort of legacy that is the result of a half-blood having a child with a mortal. Even more unusually, Lorelei's mother was not a spawn of the gods, but of a titan. Thaumas, aspect of the dangerous seas, father of Iris, Arke, and the harpies. Lorelei views the two goddesses and monsters as her aunts.

But because Rachel is never satisfied with just giving a character an unusual family tree, there must be something that sets Lorelei apart from regular campers.

Titans don't hold mortals in high esteem. That's just a fact. When Clarimonda, daughter of Thaumas, was wed to a mortal, her father was most displeased. When Clarimonda became pregnant, his rage increased tenfold. He put a curse on the unborn child: for every year of her life, a number of people must drown in her presence... sort of like a human sacrifice to Thaumas to appease him. This number increases corresponding to her age. When she was a year old, her mother drowned their elderly neighbor and brought baby Lorelei along. When she was two, her father kidnapped two small children from a local daycare and held them beneath the water of a local pond. When Lorelei was old enough to understand why these people had to die, she was big and strong enough to help. She didn't like it at first, but over time, she began to take a perverse sort of pleasure in watching innocent people choke to death in the water that she could breathe so easily in.

By the time Lorelei was thirteen, she was withdrawn and distant from society - including her own family. She had developed a sadistic addiction to drowning things. She exceeded her requirement for that year, drowning twenty-four humans, and didn't limit herself to people. Any animal she could catch ended up dead in a matter of hours. Her mother decided that she was getting out of hand, and tried to put a stop to the excess killing. Lorelei vehemently disagreed that it was a problem, and quite an argument ensued. It ended in her father laying dead on the floor and Lorelei running away from home. They lived in Minnesota, so she fled to the largest body of water nearby - Lake Superior. She lived in the lake for nearly a year, eating fish and drowning people out boating.

Eventually, over the course of another two years, Lorelei made her way through the Great Lakes. From Superior she migrated to Huron, then to Eerie before a brief stint in Lake Michigan. The flow of water took her then to Lake Ontario. When she was sixteen, she began to wander inland again, always keeping along the rivers that crisscrossed New York. Through dreams granted to her by her grandfather, she learned of Camp Half-Blood, and traveled to Long Island.

Well, that was sufficiently ramble-y. But wait, there's more!

If Lorelei fails to drown enough people by the end of the year, she will be completely confined to water until she fulfills her quota. If she so much as touches dry land during this time, she'll die.

Other Notes: I was so very clever with this and no one's going to get it. /sob
